Since temperatures in Sri Lanka are generally on the higher on side for most of the year, you are encouraged to wear casual clothes when touring most regions of the country. T-shirts, Jeans and Shorts are the ideal choice as you would always want to feel cool and comfortable. If you are exploring the hill country it is best if you have with you woolen clothing to protect you from the chilly environment. Sweaters, Pull-Overs and Cotton Trousers are the order of the day. Sandals, Slippers and Shoes would cap it all off. Also choosing light colored clothing will reduce the heat intake during the day.

If you are hiking in the wilds of the country, then a map of the region followed by a compass are essential items to know your whereabouts. As Leeches are a common menace in rain forests, a bottle of Siddhalepa, Salonpas spray or Salt spray are the perfect repellents in preventing Leech bites. If possible grab hold of a pair of Leech socks where it will help you in your travels. These socks are worn up to the knees over a regular pair of socks to prevent bites. Cotton or extremely hardy clothing are recommended.
